I am excited with how the design is coming together. As I visualize the proposed constructions on the site there are fewer and fewer ideas that I can find major flaws in and as I solve the minor ones I am becoming more confident in the design. I had trouble representing my ideas because they were changing so quickly, but as I finalize ideas of the design it has become easier and easier to represent.

You mean the less flaws you find in the existing site? Because I’m finding that I can really leave a lot of the businesses, infill, then change up the roads a bit. This project is driving me crazy now. I’m not feeling it any more…I think the break did me in. But, maybe this laissez faire attitude will allow me to approach the site more pragmatically and not as emotionally wrapped-up in it. Were you able to talk to the visiting guy?

I meant as I start to think about details I am finding fewer and fewer problems with my design however there are still instances where I second guess a previously designed element or get a tangent idea, and It can stop me hours. (I stumbled a little bit yesterday because the site was so differrent at that time of day) I was bombarded with new ideas, some consistent with my strategy and some not. At this point I had to just say to myself that I had considered a lot when deciding on my strategy and It was still ‘good’, and then I focused on separating the ideas into the two categories and moving on.
The ‘visiting guy’ was a good designer and gave some good ideas at the crit, but for me I’ve found that new ideas aren’t always helpful usually because I have solidified my ideas further than I have represented them, and in considering the new ideas I begin to question my pevious decisions sometimes all the way back to my concept. The thing to remember is that although the proffesionals at the critique have more experience and can offer a new perspective and ideas on the design, we make the decisions.
Of all the class you definitely have the best understanding of the site and the most vested interest. I think you have always been very pragmatic with your design. You have great ideas, and I would trust any decision you make about the sites future
