LA 7002

I am excited with how the design is coming together. As I visualize the proposed constructions on the site there are fewer and fewer ideas that I can find major flaws in and as I solve the minor ones I am becoming more confident in the design. I had trouble representing my ideas because they were changing so quickly, but as I finalize ideas of the design it has become easier and easier to represent.

After hours of reflection and model staring I have decided on the following strategy.

To spur economic growth in the area while maintaining its character of accretion, and identity as a historic business district.

Possible elements include:

     *Improved pedestrian paths

*Opening views and pulling people through I-10 and creating gathering places by removing parking under the interstate

*Slowing traffic by better defining roads with curbs and markings

*Recognizing important historic and economic businesses and using infill business’ to increase commercial density while creating unity on the site.

In wanting to take this project seriously I decided to be much more judicious in deciding to alter any of the existing businesses and houses. The site has a unique character that comes from changes that cut into it. However the density is falling and in order to spur the economy of the area more businesses are required. Making the new buildings so they don’t damage the character is very important and I think that continuing the attitude of a site that has adjusted as a design element could be successful in solving the problem.

Had lots of ideas but no way to harness them, needed a reason for making changes. Desk crit helped a lot.       Direction- Spuring econimic growth and development in the area.

Design the Perkins overpass area using foamcore and pins to create a moveable model.

1 day site analysis of a section of Magazine St in the garden district of New Orleans.

Our group recieved the second area which is the section from Felicity south to first street.

As a group we are focusing on the area by diagraming the circulation, land use, figure grounds, shops, and the walking distance. My job is to look at the vehicle and pedestrian circulation, and the walking distances people are likely to travel from in order to access the site.

Using a music video as inspiration for a landscape design.

My music video is Richard Ashcroft’s ‘A Song for Lovers’, and my site is a 40 acre open space in the hills of Mississippi that has been clearcut.

One emphasis of this project is to begin to design with AutoCAD and Photoshop.

The project is going well, but I am somewhat overwhelmed by the number and directions of ideas that can be applied to the landscape from this video.

To become familiar with Google Earth and the CADGIS storage system by creating a walkthrough with images of a certain route in Baton Rouge
